Arlington Modern House Addition

Built into the hillside on a wooded lot, this project entailed the addition of a new studio and entryway to a modern house built in the 1950s. Hammer Architects worked to develop a design that expanded and updated the small living space while preserving the simple character of the original house.

A spacious study with corner windows was built into the hillside, and connected to the existing house via a new hall that serves as an entry foyer. The mid-century portion of the project was completely rebuilt, with a focus on increasing the energy efficiency of the home.
